Spanish Travel Survival: hotels, buses, problems and money — road-ready Spanish

Four lessons of practical travel language, then AI scenarios — hotel, taxi, directions, bank, emergency — where every sentence is scored and corrected.

Travel Spanish is a specific skill: a small vocabulary used under time pressure, with a stranger, usually while something else is going on. You need to check in (tengo una reservación a nombre de…), ask about the room and the wifi, buy a ticket and understand the platform, tell a taxi driver where you are going and agree a fare, explain a problem (no funciona, perdí, me robaron), change money and — at a market — bargain without offending anyone. Most of it uses the polite usted forms, and a lot of it is questions.

Learners who have studied grammar for months still freeze here, because the hard part is not the grammar but the listening: prices and times come fast, regional vocabulary varies (boleto, pasaje, tiquete; camión, micro, colectivo), and a real conversation does not wait while you conjugate. The other difficulty is knowing the conventional phrases — ¿a cómo está? at a market, ¿me lo deja en…? for a lower price, a nombre de for a booking — which sound odd if you translate them from English.

The four lessons below give you the phrases and the patterns. Then the AI tutor puts you in the situations themselves: the hotel desk, the taxi, asking for directions, the bank and the lost-passport emergency, at easy, medium or hard difficulty. Every message is scored 0–100 with the correction shown, and the AI Call voice mode makes you handle the exchange by ear, which is how you will meet it on the road. Errors that repeat go into your Error Bank and come back with spaced repetition.
