What a Spanish spell check should catch

Paste a sentence or a short paragraph. You get a score out of 100, every misspelt word with its fix and the reason, and the whole text corrected so you can copy it.

Why a word list isn't enough

An ordinary spell checker only asks whether each word exists. Esta and está both exist, so it waves through la casa esta lejos when you meant la casa está lejos. Si and sí, tu and tú: same story. This checker reads the whole sentence, works out which word you meant, and tells you why the accent belongs there.

It also catches what a word list never will: correct spelling that says the wrong thing. Estoy caliente is spelled perfectly and still doesn't mean "I'm hot" the way you think. For full grammar, tenses and those slips, use the Spanish grammar checker; it's the same tutor, with the focus on grammar.

Common Spanish spelling mistakes

You writeThe fixWhy
Tambien hablo ingles.También hablo inglés.Both words need their accent: tam-BIÉN, in-GLÉS. Words ending in -n or -s that stress the last syllable carry one.
Necesito ir a la estation.Necesito ir a la estación.-tion is English. The Spanish ending is -ción, with the accent on the o.
Fui al restorante.Fui al restaurante.Restaurante keeps the au of the original: res-tau-RAN-te.
Ola, ¿como estas?Hola, ¿cómo estás?The h is silent but written. Question words take an accent (cómo), and so does estás.
Nesesito ayuda.Necesito ayuda.Necesitar is spelled with c-e-s-i: the s sound before e and i is often written with c.
Conosco a tu hermana.Conozco a tu hermana.Verbs in -cer like conocer take -zco in the yo form: conozco, parezco, ofrezco.
Voy a la playa por que hace calor.Voy a la playa porque hace calor.Porque (because) is one word. Por qué, two words with an accent, asks why.
Estoy llendo a casa.Estoy yendo a casa. The -ing form of ir is yendo, with a y. Llendo isn't a word.

The accent rules behind most of these fit on one page: the Spanish accent marks course has the stress rule and a word-by-word list. Verbs that change their spelling, like conozco and yendo, are in the Spanish verb conjugations.

Questions people ask

Is the Spanish spell checker free?

Yes. You can check a few sentences a day with no account. For unlimited checks, plus full messages, speaking practice and a course built around your mistakes, Juntos has a 7-day free trial with no card.

Does it check Spanish accents?

Yes. Missing and wrong accents are spelling mistakes in Spanish, so it flags every one, including the ones that change the word, like si and sí or esta and está.

How is it different from the spell check in my phone or browser?

Those only check whether each word exists. This one reads the whole sentence, so it knows when esta should be está, and it explains why.

Does it check grammar too?

Yes, it's the same tutor. For tenses, ser and estar and agreement, the Spanish grammar checker page has the full list of what it catches.

Which Spanish does it use?

Neutral Latin American Spanish, so papas, carro, celular and computadora are all correct spellings of the words people use.

Is my text saved?
