The café is where most people speak their first Spanish abroad, and it is more than pointing at a menu. You greet, you ask what there is for breakfast, you order a drink and a plate, you handle the questions that come back (¿con leche? ¿para llevar?), you ask for the bill and you find out whether they take cards. It is short, it is polite, and it happens every morning, which makes it the ideal first scenario.

In Juntos the café scenario is rated easy: the AI waiter uses short sentences and common vocabulary, and lets you lead. The phrases below cover the whole exchange in natural Latin American Spanish — note ¿me da…? and quiero… for ordering, which are far more common than the literal translations of "can I have" that English speakers reach for.

3 mistakes learners make here

¿Puedo tener un café? → ¿Me da un café? / Quiero un café. "Can I have" does not translate word for word; tener is possession, not ordering.
Una café, por favor. → Un café, por favor. Café is masculine despite the final vowel.
Para ir, por favor. → Para llevar, por favor. "To go" is para llevar — literally "to take away".
