Introducir means to insert. To introduce a friend, use presentar.

A false friend that sounds professional and lands very badly.

You said
Introduzco a mi amigo.
What it means: I insert my friend.
A local says
Te presento a mi amigo.
Let me introduce my friend.
Why: Introducir means to insert or to bring in. Introducing a person is presentar.
A dinner in Mexico City
Quiero introducir a mi amigo Tom.
…¿dónde?

Introducir is a real verb with real uses: you introduces a key into a lock, a coin into a machine, a topic into a conversation, a product into a market. What you don't do is introduce a person with it. People are presentados: te presento a Tom (tú), le presento a Tom (usted), les presento a Tom (a group).

The reply is fixed and worth knowing cold: mucho gusto or encantado / encantada from both sides, often with a handshake, or a single cheek kiss between a man and a woman or two women in most of Latin America. Igualmente (likewise) answers either one.

Two more in the same family: introducing yourself is presentarse (me presento: soy Tom), and "introduction" as in the opening of a talk is introducción, which is fine, because it isn't a person.
