"Yo gusto" is backwards. The tacos please you.
The slip that comes from translating "I like" one word at a time.
English puts the liker first: I like tacos. Spanish puts the thing first, in spirit if not always in word order: los tacos me gustan, the tacos please me. So yo never does the liking. The person appears as an indirect object pronoun (me, te, le, nos, les) and the verb agrees with the thing being liked.
Yo gusto does exist as a form, and it means "I am pleasing" or "I am liked", which is why a native will smile. If you want to emphasise you, the way English stresses "I like it", Spanish adds a mí in front: a mí me gustan los tacos. That's the emphatic version, and it still keeps me.
Quick check before you speak: the word after gusta/gustan is the thing you like, and the word before it is me (or te, le…). If you've said yo, start again.
