Football talk is its own dialect. You need to know how to say which team you support (le voy a… in much of Latin America, or soy hincha de…), the score (van empatando uno a uno), the reactions (¡qué golazo!) and the complaints about the referee that are half the fun. It is also the scenario where gustar-style opinions and the progressive (está perdiendo) come out at speed, between goals, with people shouting.

Yo soporto al Barcelona. → Le voy al Barcelona. / Soy hincha del Barcelona. Soportar means to put up with. Supporting a team is irle a or ser hincha de.
Marcó una meta. → Metió un gol. / Marcó un gol. Meta is a goal you aim for in life; in football the goal is el gol.
Mi equipo es perdiendo. → Mi equipo está perdiendo. The progressive always takes estar.
