Soy aburrido means you're boring. Bored is estoy aburrido.
The ser vs estar slip that turns a dull afternoon into a confession.
Spanish has two verbs for "to be". Ser describes what something is by nature: identity, character, origin. Estar describes how it is right now: location, mood, condition. Boredom is a mood, so it takes estar. Say soy aburrido and you've described your personality.
A handful of adjectives change meaning with the verb, and they're worth learning as pairs. Es listo is clever, está listo is ready. Es malo is a bad person, está malo is unwell. Es vivo is sharp, está vivo is alive. Es rico is rich, está rico is delicious. Same word, different verb, different sentence.
The test that works in real time: could this change by tomorrow? If yes, estar. Bored, tired, sick, happy, ready, in Oaxaca: all estar. Tall, Australian, a teacher, boring as a person: ser.
