Largo means long. Large is grande.
Ask for this shirt en largo and the shop assistant will bring you the long-sleeved version, still in your size.
Largo looks like large, but it measures length, not size. Un camino largo is a long road, pelo largo is long hair, and una camisa de manga larga is a long-sleeved shirt. So asking for a shirt en largo sounds like a question about sleeves, and the most likely result is the long-sleeved version in exactly the size that didn't fit.
Large is grande. In Mexican shops, sizes usually go chica, mediana, grande and extra grande, often printed as CH, M, G and EG, although S, M, L and XL are everywhere too. For a size up, ¿la tiene más grande? or ¿tiene una talla más grande? works anywhere. Shoes use número instead: ¿qué número calza? (what size shoe do you take?).
Largo also measures time: un día largo is a long day, and a lo largo de means along or throughout (a lo largo del año). You may also hear a sharp ¡largo de aquí!, which means get out of here. A shop assistant won't say it to you, but it turns up in films and telenovelas often enough to be worth recognising. And larga distancia is long distance, on phone plans and bus tickets.
