Practise sending back a wrong order in Spanish, with an AI that grades you

A medium-level scenario for a meal gone slightly wrong: the wrong dish arrives, the bill is too high and the waiter is busy. Stay polite, be specific, get it fixed.

Complaining well is a skill in any language, and in Spanish it depends on softening. A blunt esto está mal sounds rude; disculpe, creo que hay un error gets the same result with a smile. You need the past tense to say what you ordered (pedí, nos trajeron), items and numbers to check the bill, the conditional for polite requests (¿me podría…?) and the words to say exactly what is wrong without blaming anyone.

Juntos rates "Esto no es lo que pedí" medium: the AI plays Rodrigo, a busy waiter in Mérida who has brought you panuchos instead of the sopa de lima you ordered, and later a bill with two drinks you never had. He uses usted, is a little defensive at first and only relaxes when you explain clearly and politely. It brings together the past tense, the conditional and the pedir vs. preguntar trap.

How the AI session works

You open the Esto no es lo que pedí scenario (wrong dish, wrong bill: complain politely, stay firm) and the AI takes the other role. In the app this scenario is rated medium, which sets the vocabulary, sentence length and pace the AI starts with. You can also choose easy, medium or hard for any scenario, so the same conversation grows with you from A2 to B2.

Every message you send is scored 0–100 for grammar, vocabulary, fit with your level and how quickly you replied. Tap the score and you see one clear piece of feedback and the specific corrections: what you wrote, what a native speaker would have written, and why. Mistakes that keep recurring are filed into your Error Bank and come back in spaced-repetition reviews.

Prefer to speak? AI Call mode runs the same scenario by voice: tap the mic, say your line, and the AI transcribes it, replies out loud in Latin American Spanish and grades your spoken turn. For a situation like this one, doing it by ear is the closest thing to the real conversation.

Questions people ask

How do I say "this isn't what I ordered" in Spanish?

Disculpe, esto no es lo que pedí. Then say what you did order: yo pedí la sopa de lima. Starting with disculpe and keeping a calm tone does most of the work.

How do I query a restaurant bill in Spanish?

Ask the waiter to check it rather than accusing anyone: disculpe, ¿podría revisar la cuenta? Creo que hay un error. Then be specific: nos cobraron dos bebidas que no pedimos (we were charged for two drinks we didn't order).
