Mistakes learners make with entender

The stem changes e to ie: entiendo, entiendes, but entendemos. Entendo is a common slip.
For one moment in the past, use the preterite: no entendí la pregunta.
Realising something is darse cuenta, not realizar: me di cuenta de que era tarde.
