Practise wedding small talk in Spanish, with an AI that grades you
A medium-level scenario at your partner's cousin's wedding: the questions every aunt asks, how you met, when it's your turn, the dance floor and the food.
A Mexican wedding is a long night of small talk with people you have just met, many of them relatives. The questions come in a familiar order: who you are with, how you met (¿cómo se conocieron?), how long you have been together, and the inevitable ¿y ustedes para cuándo? In between there is dancing, toasting and a lot of food to comment on. You need the past tense for your story, a few polite ways to dodge personal questions, and the warm formulas (¡felicidades!, ¡qué bonita boda!) that keep it friendly.
Juntos rates "La boda del primo" medium: the AI plays Tía Mari, your partner's aunt, at a cousin's wedding in Oaxaca. She is kind, chatty and a little nosy, jumps from topic to topic and expects you to keep up. It is a good workout for the past tense, Future & Plans when she asks about your own wedding, and ustedes forms, since she is often talking to you and your partner at once. The phrases below cover the whole evening.

How the AI session works
You open the La boda del primo scenario (small talk with the tías at a family wedding) and the AI takes the other role. In the app this scenario is rated medium, which sets the vocabulary, sentence length and pace the AI starts with. You can also choose easy, medium or hard for any scenario, so the same conversation grows with you from A2 to B2.
Every message you send is scored 0–100 for grammar, vocabulary, fit with your level and how quickly you replied. Tap the score and you see one clear piece of feedback and the specific corrections: what you wrote, what a native speaker would have written, and why. Mistakes that keep recurring are filed into your Error Bank and come back in spaced-repetition reviews.
Prefer to speak? AI Call mode runs the same scenario by voice: tap the mic, say your line, and the AI transcribes it, replies out loud in Latin American Spanish and grades your spoken turn. For a situation like this one, doing it by ear is the closest thing to the real conversation.
3 mistakes learners make here
- Estamos juntos por dos años. → Llevamos dos años juntos. For something still going on, "for" + time is llevar + time (or desde hace); por dos años sounds finished.
- Mi novio y yo vamos a casar. → Mi novio y yo nos vamos a casar. Casarse is reflexive: nos casamos, nos vamos a casar. Casar alone is what the judge or priest does.
- No puedo bailar. → No sé bailar. Not having the skill is no sé; no puedo sounds like something is stopping you, like a sore knee.

How do I answer "¿y ustedes para cuándo?" at a wedding?
It means "and when is your wedding?", and every tía will ask it. A light, smiling answer works best: todavía no tenemos fecha, pero usted será la primera en saberlo (we don't have a date yet, but you'll be the first to know). A laugh and a change of subject is also perfectly polite.
What do I say to the couple at a Mexican wedding?
¡Felicidades! or ¡Muchas felicidades a los novios! is the standard, and you can add que sean muy felices (may you be very happy). On the wedding day, los novios means the bride and groom.
